It was a fun time teaching my students on some CLS & lighting techniques for their final assignments...

It is easy to follow the flow and 'create' images that are common... but to break from this 'commonness' one needs to understand the fundamentals, then utilitize it to create unique imagery... :)

Had a privilege to shoot Bubba Gump & did a complete Virtual Tour for them. Bubba Gump Sunway is the biggest outlet in Asia

Measuring 9,000 sq ft, the outlet costs NZ Diners some RM3.5 million that includes franchise rights, reno-vation, training and workforce. NST

Anyway, I always enjoy my architecture/interior shoots with Eric... my faithful partner! :)

Had a privillage to shoot at Absolut Launch Masquerade at the Lodge KL in March....

“Pernod Ricard just took over the brand and the positioning of the brand has always been to be ahead of the trend,” said Pernod Ricard Malaysia marketing director Deric Tan.

He said the whole idea behind the masquerade theme was about living in a trendy world which was ahead of time but not too far-fetched that one could not touch the brand.

Themed In an Absolut World, Every Night is a Masquerade, models were dressed in fancy costumes to complement the shiny red sequined limited edition skin that wrapped the vodka bottles.

Various rooms with different settings were set up for guests to play games and mingle around while the upstairs foyer provided a stage for the live band providing the entertainment." The Star

Though it was simple yet joyful event for Hon Yuen & Amanda, we, the photographers were capturing interesting moments through the day....

Hon Yuen & Amanda are simple yet a friendly couple and not to mention camera shy... but as the day went by, they just ease & relax themselves & had fun through the event...

Thank God it did not rain and the sun was bright shining! :)

Glenmarie Golf & Country Club

I have an attachment to this club as I have been shooting her WIP for 6 months, every 2 weeks... until recently seeing its completion...

The place has been so familiar to me as I have seen the breaking down of the old structure and the erection of its new. Made friends with the contractors, guards & staff... It was indeed an experience as a package... :)

Marina Island Job Update

It was indeed a pleasant surprise when we were driving through the streets of Sitiawan... My wife suddenly shocked me by showing me a billboard, a shot something that I took... Ha... and it took a few seconds to recognise it was actually the shot that I did a few weeks back! :)

Am really happy that the client loved the shot and work that I did...

Marina Island

Marina Island... was just introduced to this place just before I was ask to take on this job... loved the place where I could fish! Would want to go there again this CNY if I have a chance, for fishing of course...

I would say, Marina Island has been the most exciting job so far that I have undertaken. The place in about 10 years gonna be like a small town by itself with interesting places of entertainment, business & residentials...

Our hosts was very involved with the shooting and they were so hospitable... :) We even had our meals together and even had breakfast outdoor style in front of the showroom... it was after the pre-dawn shoot...

The exciting part is that I had to go up this sky lift about 3 storeys high (at first I thought i was going even higher) to get an aerial shot of the home...

Anyway, here are some shots taken....

Chee Chew & Yen Ching

I had the opportunity to shoot Chee Chew & Yen Ching pre-wedding dinner only as had other engagements on their actual. My partner, Sharon, shot their actuals...

Anyway, to start the journey to Jenjarum, was with me my trusty GPS, which my generous sister bought for me. Reaching there was not so difficult, but to find the right house was... I was embrassed because I went in the wrong house (i usually follow the decorated hse, not knowing that they have also had a wedding ceremony just before)

Saying sorry to the owners and Yen Ching, opened the doors to 'rescued' me and brought me to safety! :)

These are a few shots of the pre-wedding dinner at her place... the ppl were enjoying themselves & a little too loud for a few :)

It has been sometime where I shoot
'professionally' as since Nov was involved in the Kids Camp, 911... It was really a bash!

Anyway, December doesn't seem to have more leisure time...

My opening shoot for December was with Stephen, Joey & Odie... while my partner, Sharon shot the planned shots, i setup my stuff to do some creative lighting, adjusted the right exposure and was ready for them... :)

Was walking around BU park, saw the playground was kinda normal but what struck my attention what this old abandon mini train track... good background n object to shoot with... so cutting the shorter story shorter... this was the result...

It is always fun to shoot with Steve & Joey as they are really a good sport even on their wedding day! :)

I had a good time shooting Unabashed at KTM. KTM has lots of architectural character that brings out the vintage look...

It was about 10am plus where we reached the location... Sharon had good contacts with KTM and the manager brought us around for a 'tour' of Heritage Hotel... a very kewl place if you like the feel of vintage and don't mind a 100 over years old lift and creaking floors...

Manage to set up the strobes and tested out first while Sharon was shooting them in the bath tub & some alien kinda poses on the roof top..

Believe me, our pores were flowing with ~~milk & honey~~ sweat... i smelt like a real man...

Anyway, coming back to the shoot, I was happy with my 1st shoot for bands and don't mind experimenting on new techniques...

Samuel's & Joanne

One thing that impacted me a lot when shooting for Samuel & Joanne is their simplicity and they had so much going between them...

I could see the love and bond they had for each other, more than physical or material stuff... I enjoyed the shoot too as I 'sneaked' a little time chatting with Joanne's dad, talking about ways to tie a neck tie... At the end, her dad agreed to allow me so called tie the 'british' way... We had a good time indeed... :)

It was a honour to shoot for a good friend of mine... though i was not with the crowd but was with the groom and bride nearly most of the time... going through their joy during the day.

A few of us started out, early as the wedding was in Johor, so Friday we headed down south, drop by their rehearsal and prepared for the next day...

What was the moment was early in the morning, the family gathered to pray together and after that, everyone gave their 'farewells' That was a very touching moment...

Was at my break with my beloved and tried some 'new' so called techniques... basically working out Nikon's CLS (Creative Lighting System) and also HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging...

The outcome as the photo... the noticeable difference is the water's reflection has a better depth and tone. Image has more saturation or tones.

And as for CLS, able to position the light wherever I want and balance it up with the sunset....

A very interesting and exciting wedding I would say... Judson, who is involved in a band, seeing his talented mates performing and giving him great support...

Getsy on the other hand, look like a quite petite lady but lo and behold drove a RX8 to the wedding ceremony...

More Photos @ Perhentian

This is my 3rd time going to Perhentian & Redang... it's the 1st & 3rd visit I brought my trusty DSLR, and scared to death of dropping or being paranoid that the boat would tip over and all my equipment gone... as you would know, it did not happen...

I would still say in my little travel experience, Perhentian/Redang is still one of the better beaches plus it is affordable...

Took this time, to let down my hair (by the way, i have hair like 1.5 inch) and try different techniques, namely HDRI (high dynamic range imaging) sound so sophisticated but actually, it is about combine different Exposure Values into an image and producing an imaging with greater bit depth...

Geoffrey & Jacelyn is a very cheerful and optimistic couple. I was seeing them enjoying themselves throughout the dinner and also pick up the bride session.

I did not follow them to Singapore on their wedding day but shooting away at Jacelyn's home in Melaka.

Although the start of the day was rough as there are a burglary in the groom place, but Geoffrey did not let it spoil their wonderful day...

My Journey Into Photography Part 1

Was just thinking back on how did I get hooked up with photography...

I was watching Joe McNally at Authors@Google an hour long but very inspiring... the ups & downs he goes through...

As far as I could remember I think the beginning of the beginning when we did primary school experiment on pin hole cameras... wow was impress that you can get an upside down image on the tracing paper...

After that, curiosity took place, where I explored my dad's 'prosumer' film camera... Minolta... i remember turning, churning, twisting, clicking, prying this camera... hahaha... i know where he kept it, in his DIY dry box... I think that is the end of the life of that camera. I did not see it anymore after that...

As years go by, we kept winning those point and shoot cameras, I remember the Pentax one, where to me at that time was so good and sophisticated... kept snapping photos here and there...

I had albums and albums of random photos....

A point where my life changed when I was at 17... when lo and behold, my sister won a 1st price for some Reader's Digest competition.. she won a Nikon F401 Wow... that was like a miracle! I immediately claimed that dream prize... anyway, nobody else was interested in photography in my family!

I read the manual like 50 times and new vocab was added into my tiny brain... like exposure, TTL, shutter speed, f-stops, etc... At that time I was also having a major exam, SPM at that time it was called which would determine my future... but hack the exams! :)

After the exams, with my trusty racing bike and home made camera bag with lots of sponges went cycling around chasing sunsets & sunrises and looking for wonderful sceneries to be captured....

I only had my kit lens and the body... the photos mountained up and guess what... i used shoe boxes to keep them as there were too many for album... psst... if u did not know where I got the name The Digital ShoeBox... it came from here :)

During the break, I ~~was sent because I was giving too much problems~~ went to my uncle's studio where they shoot commercial products. I learnt more than what I bargain for... beside being exposed to photography, I learnt a lot about life and how to take verbal abuse! :)

After another 1.5 years I went back to learn more than I was off to college learning about ~~conning~~ marketing & advertising. At that time, many of my peers where into like business admin, engineering, law, etc... so I was like duh... anyway, glad that I took what I took... I excelled better than my 12 years in school!

At that time, I was not active in photography as college was super fun and enjoying my life with my friends at that time.

At that time, digital cameras came into the market but were super expensive, RM18k-20k plus? Where am I suppose to get that money? Rob the bank or beg on the street?

Anyway I invested in a Nikon Coolpix prosumer series which like cost RM3k, a whopping 2Megapixel!

So my ventures of photography continued. I was invited to take a wedding at that time, with my prosumer camera... i did the worst job ever and wish i did not do it... thank God they had another photography with this Canon DSLR (imagine me standing beside this guy :) )

That was my turning point into digital photography... saved enough cash and took a plunge into a D70...

The journey continues...

Macro Again?

It has beena long time shooting macro. Macro was once my favourite as was shootings lots of portraits, stills and landscapes namely waterfalls!

Armed with my Tamron 180mm, away i was shooting these ferocious ants, tearing apart the poor little bee!

Trying to stablise my arms was a great feat as the weightt of the D300 & the lens might weigh about 1.8kgs!

Anyway, taking a breather by shooting different subjects/objects will trigger me to look things in a different eye!

What is the best day that you can have a wedding? Jason & Adrene's wedding coincide with the Elections for Malaysia. The elections itself is very historic as the opposition got more than what was expected and denied the current government 2/3 majority.

Adrene cast her vote before going for her wedding in her gown! Really dramatic & so so historical... as they have kids, they can show them, that they got married on this historical day...

I had lots of fun going around and shooting moments for them and enjoyed each shoot!

As relax and cool as Peng Siah, never have I seen a groom so relaxed... reached in the morning at Peng Siah's place, and guess what? He was serving redang and nasi minyak! (spice chicken with special 'oil' rice)

Anyway, we have a fun time going around and taking moments of joy...
